95-year-old Tony Bennett won’t let Alzheimer’s disease stop him from dropping the most swinging duet with Lady Gaga on MTV and their friendship is too adorable

Tony Bennett battled Alzheimer’s disease since 2016, but he didn’t let a little thing like that stop him from dropping a swinging cut of this Sinatra classic with none other than Lady Gaga! The dynamic duo’s cheeky MTV Unplugged duet on “I’ve Got You Under My Skin” not only had some killer vocal lines, but was also just so wholesome seeing their warm friendship come through so clearly. Fans loved seeing the old master work with his protégé and were bowled over by how strong the 95-year-old’s vocals were.

Their duo showed plenty of chemistry, with Bennett’s husky tenor anchoring the song while Gaga really went to town, with her mezzo-soprano soaring above with some gorgeous harmonies. The Music Man has to say it was also really lovely to see Gaga acknowledge Bennett’s wife, Susan, at the beginning, and to see Susan so happy to see her husband knock the performance out of the park with Gaga.

When MTV uploaded the duet to YouTube, fans gave plenty of props to both performers, adding comments such as, “Tony’s still got the vocal range even though he’s 95! What a true marvel he is!” and “Gaga controlled each and every second of that set guiding a 95-year-old Alzheimer’s patient to perform on a worldwide level. What a talent she is.”

Gaga and Bennett collaborated a number of times over the years, both live and in the studio. The pair delivered another groovy duet on “Cheek to Cheek” when they appeared on The View. Watching this performance really highlights how incredibly versatile Gaga is as a vocalist and performer. She can effortlessly go from her bold and brash dancefloor bangers to classy retro diva vibes – she’s one of a kind.

Gaga and Bennett issued two collaborative studio albums, Cheek to Cheek and Love for Sale. “I’ve Got You Under My Skin” was featured on the deluxe version of Love for Sale. “I’ve Got You Under My Skin” was written by American songwriter Cole Porter in 1936 and was a natural fit for inclusion on Love for Sale, as the album was a tribute to Porter’s songs. “I’ve Got You Under My Skin” was first recorded by Virginia Bruce for the musical Born to Dance. The Music Man readers may recall that the song was popularized by Frank Sinatra, with the tune becoming one of his signature songs. It was also notably recorded by The Four Seasons, who scored a top 10 with the song in 1966.
